On 15th June 2006, Dr Ian Gibson presented the second Owers Lecture at Oracle's city office in Moorgate.

Ian Gibson studied at Dumfries Academy in Scotland and continued at Edinburgh University where he gained a doctorate in genetics. He headed a research team investigating various forms of cancer at the University of East Anglia and remains an Honorary Professor. Elected MP for Norwich North in 1997, Ian has been Chair, House of Commons Select Committee for Science and Chair, Parliamentary and Scientific Committee (1999 - 2002) .
He was described by Andrew Roth in The Guardian as:
"an important and active scientific voice in the Commons"
